This medieval fidel or vielle was made by Raff Mizraki in the 1990's. It has 5 strings though the lowest runs beside, rather than over, the fingerboard and functions as a drone. The bridge is flat and it is almost impossible to play one string at a time. The last time I used it I tuned it in A. Strings top to bottom were; E (2 E's above middle C), A, E, A, G. However, many different tunings are possible.
I have two vielles so can tune them differently for use in the same performance or session.
